Kelly is also a photographer so she came well prepared for the session. She collected several simple props to create a unique setting and planned the outfits perfectly with pops of colour and lots of accessories.

Because there were so many photos to choose from, I decided to post this session two parts. After halfway through the session, Matt and Kelly did a quick outfit change. Kelly was brave enough to wear a fun cocktail dress. So stay tuned for that set of photos later this week.

“I am beyond thrilled to be a guest blogger on my favorite photographer’s (Lyndsay) blog.  First off, huge congrats to all brides to be!  This is a super exciting time and I’m sure all the decision making can be fun but overwhelming.  So hopefully through this blog post, I can help you gain some inspirations with my area of expertise – wedding flowers!

Flowers are the universal language for love, romance and liveliness.   Flowers are used to celebrate all major milestones in our lives.  Specifically for weddings, flowers are such a major contributor to its beauty.  Wedding florals reflect the sense of style of the couple and makes a statement about their love.   Choosing a theme that reflects you and your love will create a lasting memory for you and your guests!

So, what type of style are you?  I want to share with you some of my favorite styles from our 2011 Wedding Collection.  Each theme and each piece was custom designed to fit the couple, their venue and their vision.  I hope you enjoy them and find some inspirations and ideas for your wedding!

This vintage elegant bouquet (above) was designed for a very beautiful and unique couple.  I added lots of texture to this vintage bouquet using big white dahlias, hydrangeas, queen Ann’s lace, seeded eucalyptus and of course romantic peach pink roses and spray roses.  This bouquet is so dreamy!  I heard the whole wedding was a dream and all the DIY items were amazing.  This wedding, captured beautifully by Lyndsay, was featured on weddingbells.ca.  How cool is that?

I was very excited when I was asked by Urban Wedding Magazine to design a bouquet for a high fashion wedding photoshoot at the immaculate Cecil Green Park House.  I chose bold colors and unique textures to match the feel of the photoshoot, and I incorporated succulents in the bouquet which is becoming a very popular element in wedding florals (see above).

The autumn themed arrangements were designed for a very romantic fall wedding.   Burgundy dahlias, pom pom orange dahlias, mango calla lilies, two toned circus roses, scabiosa pods and a variety of other flowers were used.  I also added faux mini apples and squashes to enrich the fall theme.  In one of my favorite touches of the year, the bride wanted to incorporate a brooch with a picture the bride’s mother, who had recently passed away, and attach it to the handle of the bouquet.   That way her mother would be in her arms and in their hearts throughout the entire wedding.   What a warm and beautiful touch to this romantic fall wedding.

For the sweet bride with great fashion sense, I created this cute and contemporary theme.  Yellow and royal blue was a very popular color last year, it’s chic and refreshing!  Her bridal bouquet was created with lots of yellow and white calla lilies (the bride LOVED callas), ranunculus, ivory roses and variegated grass loops.  The yellow flowers contrasted beautifully with the royal blue decor.  Interesting elements like lemons and craspedia balls were also used to add a touch to fit the fun and cute nature of the bride and groom.

First up is the Canon 24 f1.4 L. My newest addition to my lens family. It’s a quirky lens that has a funky/cute feel. When would I use it?  In tight spaces because it is so wide AND also for some fun feeling portraits. Yay! I haven’t been blown away by it’s sharpness so far. I might not be adjusted to it yet, making it not as bang on. Sometimes it is super sharp though – maybe when I hold my breath. Phew! I do see some lens distortion in the corners, but I actually like that. On a side note, if my 35 mm f1.4 L was ill, I would use this one before I use the 50 mm f 1.2. It’s more comfortable (aka I don’t have a panic attack) to look though on my camera and fits well with my style.

Real close. Justine is hilar. She’s all – you’re almost touching my face! I like that. Touching. And her face.Chaz the family dog doesn’t seem to mind how close I get. Well actually I took about 10 photos before he would look at me.This was a tight space. Fitting in Kirmin (the dog on the right) would have been near impossible with my Canon 35 mm f1.4 L. But her nose is a little stretched. I actually dig it. She looks like a Star Wars Ewok.Next up is my 35 mm f 1.4 L. This is my FIRST Canon L series lens. It knows no limits. It is used for portraits mostly. But also for details, getting ready shots, ceremonies, first dances, shooting above people lying down (I will use the 24 now though), bridal parties, mommies and their cute babies. You name it. It’s glued to my camera 95% of the time. Almost every photo on my site is taken with it. It’s sharp, wide, and fast. But not too artsy wide. And it does not have that uber traditional feeling to it like the 85 mm or the 50 mm.

Okay great. Next up is the dreamy Canon 50 mm f 1.2 L. I feel guilty for not using it mooooorrre. It’s such a beautiful lens. Seriously. So sharp, such a good low light lens. Brilliant colour. Amazing bokeh. To die for really. But I like getting realllly close and it doesn’t let me do that the way the 24 mm and 35 mm does. I’m not as confident composing with it either. So it gets used for ceremonies, details, some portrait (but rarely), and lots at receptions (speeches, first dances, etc.). I take this lens on walk abouts and holidays out of the guilt I feel for leaving it in the bag at weddings so much. It’s small so it fits nicely in my (*gasp) purse.

Okay. Dark church. Beautiful. But dark. The 50 mm f 1.2 saved the day. Thank goodness!

Here it is enjoying Hawaii this Christmas.

Next up is my Canon Macro 100 f 2.8. It’s a great macro lens. I really appreciate what it does even though I use it so little. I use it for flowers, earrings and RINGS! Lots of shiny lovely rings! It gets fussy (and I mean reeeeallly fussy) about focussing in low light and isn’t always great when my hands are shaky from stressing during a time crunch, but I won’t upgrade. Sometimes, when I’m a hot mess, I will hand it to Adam and ask him to take the shot. His photos are tack sharp. 

The next lens that is in my bag is the 70 – 200 f4 L IS. It is a lot more reasonably priced than the f2.8 but let’s be honest, it’s not great in low light. I do love this lens in a nicely lit (usually outdoor) ceremony or reception space. It’s beautiful, sharp, has great colour and nice bokeh. It is slow to focus, but that’s sort of what happens when you are a mile away zooming in real close. I think it’s neat to hear the mechanics of it while it does its thing. Zzzzzz. Oh did I mention it’s heavy? I feel like I’m pumping some serious iron when I slap this bad boy on my Mark II. Makes me feel like I can kick some serious a**. Yep. I DO love this lens. I DO wish I had splurged for the f2.8. But I didn’t have the cash and this has served me wonderfully. Splurge if you can.

My last lens is the Canon 135 f2 L. I bought it because my 70-200 f4 is just not doing the trick in dark settings. I have heard and read great reviews about this beauty and I expect it to rock my world this year. Stay tuned for samples. I haven’t even used it yet! Who’s excited???

As a final note, I use mostly primes. I think they are faster, sharper, and the colour on the L series Canon lenses are second to none. I do minimal editing on my images because of them and my Canon 5D mark II. This gear makes me look good. Thanks for reading :).
