Photoshop Images – Combining them – From Two (or More) to One…

I have to say Photoshop is quite overwhelming for me – mostly because it’s so powerful and isn’t just a photo editing software! But I am totally game to learn and I figure that what I have learned so far might be useful for others. So here’s sharing with you how to go about creating one photographic image out of two, or more, photos in Photoshop. It might not be the only way. Or the best way. But it is one way and it may make your photography that you display more creative and captivating.

Okay. Here we go… Putting the three shots together (see below) was surprisingly easy. All you do is open all the photos that you wish to put together into one in photoshop (I did this from Lightroom). Then you click on the one that you will add the other(s) to (so that would be my first image below). Next go to -> image and then -> canvas size. “Anchor” the image to the side you want it to be anchored on (so I clicked on the left middle arrow for this). You need to change the canvas size so it will fit both or all of the photos. I tripled the width and left the height the same because the photos are the same size…

Next drag in the photo(s) and nudge them (you can use the control arrow +  key too) into place by using the arrow tool in the top left tool panel (it’s found top right). Once it is all in place simply save it and this new copy will be back in Lightroom. There may be better ways to go about this, but this worked for me and I hope it works for you too!

P.S. Make your canvas size a little bigger if you want a little white space between the photos.

And here are the results… in a crazy mathematical breakdown…

Photo 1

+ Photo 2

+ Photo 3

= ONE!

That’s right! It equals one! Wohoo!

This is the very first image I have posted on my website that I used Photoshop for other than a little sharpening:

Denise Lin

Denise Lin – a fellow Vancouver wedding photographer – has a soft and unique style. She is creative with angles and has a sweet, fun, quiet way about her. Our styles are quite different which is really cool. I think it shows how your photographer’s style needs to fit with your own.

Beyond this, I think photography is something that should not just be about how good one’s camera is. It’s about the person taking the pictures…

I’m not a ‘know it all’, I am a self proclaimed constant ‘learn it all’, but in my experience, you just have to love the person taking your picture (at least at some level). One thing I learned about my counselling degree is that the person and the relationship counts. Big time.

They need to be friendly, caring and all about YOU. After all, you are spending your time with them and they are capturing you – whether it’s your wedding day photography or your family portraits – when it maters the most. If you don’t feel at least a little bit comfortable (it is pretty odd having your picture taken by a professional) then you won’t look comfortable. I truly believe that this is exactly why great photographers, like Jasmine Star, are so successful. They care. About your photos AND about you.

Here are a few shots from my time with Denise – some of me (by Denise) and some of her.

The first image is one that she captured on our team learning session. My bestie, Jamie, got me this polka dot dress for my birthday. When I was little I was obsessed with dots. My mom can attest to that!

Love her hot pink laces.

Isn’t she the cutest? This is three separate shots from three separate jumps. Thanks Photoshot! Cool huh? I have a full post on how to do this under my “Photographers” Category.

Richmond Photography – Jeff & Monique

Yesterday afternoon I fell head over heals in love with Steveston. It’s cute, quant, and quite. Oooooh. Ahhhh. And it certainly didn’t hurt that I had the opportunity to shoot a maternity session with Jeff and Monique. Two incredible people. Very incredible. Very very Incredible.

Jeff and Monique are very green. And are dedicated to making a difference in this world. In fact Jeff is apart of a major project – creating the first officially green school in BC! How cool is that?

There is a fund raiser coming up that this Green School initiative is associated with in Vancouver at Wise hall on May 14th that will include music and performances. You can learn more about it here: http://stokn-the-fire.org/. It’s an excellent opportunity to pitch in and help kids find their potential and trust me, it will be a lot of fun!!

Also check out his website – Creative Toolbox. He offers innovative camps and leadership programs for youth that are truly inspirational and really make a difference in young people’s lives. Wow.

Anyhow, I can say with full confidence that these two have the kind of love for each other that one can’t help but swoon over.

All the best with the exciting times to come and enjoy!

This is Jeff’s “Blue Steel.” We talked about this the day we booked the shoot. He rocked it, no?
