Ella and Chris | Steamworks and Gastown Wedding

At last – the final post and final wedding of the year. Ella and Chris are quite the pair: They are ever quiet and pleasant in their ways – always smiling and always nice to be around.  It seems evident that underneath their calm exteriors they are both bursting with love for one another.

They met during their undergraduate degrees at UBC (see their UBC engagement session here). From what I hear, Chris fell head over heels for the beautiful and sweet Ella right off the bat. As he said in his charismatic and heart felt speech - how could he not “just look at her”!

Their wedding day was relaxed and charming – very reminiscent of the two of them and their love for each-other. Chris and Ella made many of the decor items themselves – from bouquets to hand knit boutonnieres (a hobby of theirs that Adam discovered in a recent chat with Chris). We started with the getting ready shots at the Delta Suites and then a first look, followed by the wedding portraits at Woodwards and ending near Canada Place. We lucked out with a rain free December day – but boy was it cold. A rare – 1 to -4 degrees for Vancouver. Ella – of course won my affections for her bravery throughout the cold. Not a single complaint as we stalked the Gastown streets in next to nothing given the cold day.

The ceremony was held at the Landing and Steamworks Uber Lounge. As Ella made her way down the aisle, Chris teared up enough to make a good chunk of the guests do the same. We quickly moved into the reception with a cocktail hour and delicious plated dinner. The evening continued with delightful speeches and a reading from “I will love you forever”. I have to admit – the story even made me cry. The decor was all customized with winter green accents and white flowers all about. All of which were meticulously organized and pulled off by Ella, Chris, their family, and the Steamworks crew. Shortly before I departed, Chris gave the final speech. It was filled with appreciation and thanks for everyone at the event. Chris has been the most polite and considerate groom I have had the pleasure to work with this year. It’s not to say my other grooms aren’t amazing, but Chris really takes the “cake”. For this, he has easily made a fan (that fan being me) for life.

I have to give a special thanks for the fabulous MOH Cassie for organizing the family portraits so well. Cassie is the kind of girl that every bride needs on her wedding day: Beautiful, organized, and as friendly as ever. I’d like to also thank Ella and Chris’ family for being so welcoming and such gracious hosts. Finally I must thank Ella and Chris for having me around on their special day – it really is I that must thank you both. Last night, as I organized my gear, I found the lovely gift you gave to me at the end of the evening. As I opened it, I was once again blown away by your kindness and generosity. Thank you for the generous gift, the yummy chocolate and super thoughtful card.

Ella and Chris | Gastown Vancouver Wedding | Sneak Peek

A sneak peek from yesterday’s RAINLESS wedding. Thank you weather gods! As you can see, the gorgeous Ella purchased insurance umbrellas to ward off the rain. I love her for that.

More to come… stay tuned!

Happy Holidays

Well folks, tomorrow will be my last shoot of the year. It will end with a bang as it is also my last wedding of the season. I can’t believe that it has almost been a year since I first got into photography. Gee whiz have I learned a lot!! Yet, I feel I must confess: I have just scratched the surface. Lots more to learn and many ways to continue to grow.

I hope that 2011 brings me more fabulous brides and grooms like 2010 did. I’ve already met lots of amazing people that I have the honor to be shooting their wedding day next year. I currently have a few 2011 spaces left for booking before I reach my cut off. Super exciting stuff, right!? You should totally contact me if you are looking to book your 2011 wedding (my shameless plug!).

Adam and I had a fabulously quiet Christmas. We drank hot chocolate, ate our favorite foods, played Boggle and Apples to Apples, watched Netflicks…. It was gooooood. Just what I needed! Adam spoiled me big time this year (well he does every year, but this year I may be extra spoiled). I must admit, I feel pretty special. He scouted around town on Christmas eve (when he always does his shopping because he “works best under pressure”) and scooped for me a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens. I can’t wait to use it tomorrow at Ella and Chris’ wedding!

Anyways, here are some low key snaps from our holiday! Nothing special, just some tinkering around.

May the New Year be good to you all! Thanks for reading and visiting and commenting this year. You make my heart so glad.

My lovely engagement ring – cleverly picked out by the sneaky Adam.Playing Apples to Apples. I lost my hair elastic so I improvised with my scarf. Hot, right? Our Charlie Brown Tree. Princess in Macro! This is her “dinosaur eye” look. We threw her favorite soft blanket down next to the fire place – getting that close to it was her gift from us this year. She blissed out for days.We have a dangerous amount of candy kicking around here. All my favorite as it happens.
